On September 5th, a research paper entitled the genomic epidemiology of mcr-positive Salmonella enterica in clinical patients from 2014 to 2017 in Sichuan, China and global epidemiological features was published in Journal of Infection. This comes out of a joint collaboration of the College of Veterinary Medicine of Yangzhou University, Jiangsu Collaborative Innovation Center for Prevention and Control of Major Animal Diseases and Zoonoses and Sichuan Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Distinguished Professor Li Ruichao, PhD student Peng Kai and Dr. Huang Weifeng are the co-first authors. Professor Wang Zhiqiang and senior technologist Yang Xiaorong are the co-corresponding authors.
Studying the global prevalence and spread of new drug-resistant gene mcr in major pathogens such as Salmonella is of great significance for preventing the drug-resistant bacteria and curbing the spread of mcr genes. It also provides a reference for the research on the spread rule of other emerging drug resistance genes. The research was supported by Monitoring, Early Warning and Response to Major Infectious Diseases, a major S&T special project from the Science and Technology Department of Sichuan Province, and by the Priority Academic Program Development of Jiangsu Higher Education Institutions.
