On December 9, the 5th BRICS Association for Gravitation, Astrophysics and Cosmology Symposium was held. President Liu Qiaoquan was invited to attend the meeting online and, on behalf of the university, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation with the Federal University of Paraíba, Brazil.

Liu Qiaoquan pointed out that in recent years, the university has focused its strategic priorities on cooperation and exchanges with leading higher education institutions in BRICS countries, establishing a solid foundation for collaboration with the Federal University of Paraíba, Brazil. He expressed hope that both parties would take the signing of this agreement as an opportunity to continue leveraging their strengths, expand the scope of cooperation, and engage in deeper collaboration in areas such as academic exchanges, joint research platform development, and more.

Terézia Domitila Dantas Martins, Rector of the Federal University of Paraíba, stated that the signing of this cooperation agreement would significantly advance the BINGO radio telescope project, in which both institutions are jointly involved, further solidifying the partnership between the two universities in their respective professional fields. She emphasized the commitment to continuously expand exchanges and cooperation, working together to contribute to the development of bilateral relations.

The event was attended by heads of relevant departments and units, including the University Office, International Office, Academic Development Office, and School of Physics.

It is reported that the BINGO project is a strategic cooperation initiative between China and Brazil. As a core member of the Chinese team, our university is primarily responsible for key tasks such as theoretical model construction and strong foreground interference removal algorithms. The memorandum signed this time will provide crucial support for the implementation of the BINGO project and its upgraded version, the ABDUS project.
