YZU hosted the Inauguration Conference of Jiangsu-Portuguese Speaking Countries Universities Consortium in Nanjing on 28 October. Wu Hao, Deputy Director-General of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, YZU President Ding Jianning, and Cláudio Furtado, Secretary of State for Science, Technology, Innovation, and Higher Education of Paraíba attended the conference and delivered speeches. Zheng Xing, Level III Division Rank Official of International Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, and Chen Jiangwei, Bureau Director of Yangzhou Science and Technology Bureau were in attendance.
Wu Hao put forward that the launch of Jiangsu-Portuguese Speaking Countries Universities Consortium would deepen cooperation and exchanges for government, universities and enterprises, making it possible to improve the quality and efficiency of cooperation, as well as open up a broader channel for the members mentioned above. Wu Hao stressed that it was necessary to improve the consortium organization mechanism, actively build one-to-many and many-to-many partnerships, form a normalized working and resource sharing mechanism, working together to create a consortium cooperation brand. More attention should be paid to improve the consortium service capabilities, push educational cooperation to a higher level, connect education and industry, and continuously represent advanced scientific research achievements, providing support for enterprises to improve their technological level to resolve practical problems. In addition, more efforts should be made to increase publicity of the consortium, achieve more consensuses from member universities on the road of cooperation and exchange, making the consortium a significant platform for international higher education exchange and cooperation.
YZU president Ding Jianning put forward that the launch of the consortium marks a new stage in the cooperation between Jiangsu Province and Portuguese-speaking countries in the field of higher education, which would surely provide new opportunities and inject new momentum for the career development of participating units. As the Secretariat of the consortium, YZU would proactively invite more cooperative partners for the progress of the consortium under the guidance of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, integrate resources from all parties to organize various activities, encourage student and faculty to join in and share constructive results, greatly promoting the development of the consortium’s cause of construction.
Cláudio Furtado expressed his congratulations on the launch of the consortium and his willingness to work with the university members involved to achieve win-win results of Jiangsu-Portuguese Speaking Countries Universities Consortium.
During the consortium, the charter and logo were discussed and confirmed by representatives of participating member universities. Yangzhou Science and Technology Bureau and Science, Technology, Innovation, and Higher Education of Paraíba jointly signed the Initiative for the establishment of Joint Research Center for Space Science. Centered by the concept of “Win-win Cooperation and Going Far Together”, representatives from Universidade Federal de Campina Grande, Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Universidade de São Paulo, Universidade de Aveiro, Universidade de Évora, Yangzhou University, Nanjing Forestry University, Nanjing Normal University, and Soochow University had exchanges of views on the consortium.
In great support of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education and advocation of YZU, 9 Jiangsu universities and 7 Portuguese speaking countries universities successfully launched the consortium. Following the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, the consortium aims to build up an integrated cooperation platform for educational and scientific talents between Jiangsu and Portuguese-speaking countries, push forward the progress of talent training, scientific research, industry-university-research and application, cultural exchanges bilaterally, eventually fueling the growth of cooperation and exchanges between Jiangsu universities and universities in Portuguese-speaking countries.
