From October 15 to 23, Jiao Xin 'an, the party secretary of Yangzhou University, led the school delegation to visit Brazil and Chile. He successively held amiable talks and deep communication with five universities and scientific research institutions, including the University of São Paulo in Brazil, the Brazilian National Institute for Semi-Arid Studies, the Federal University of Campina Grande in Brazil, the University of Talca in Chile and the Catholic University of Valparaiso and arrived at consistent cooperative views.

During the session in Brazil, the delegation conducted in-depth discussions with the universities and research institutions on comprehensively strengthening cooperation, and reached a high degree of consensus on innovating cooperation models, expanding and deepening cooperation.

At the University of São Paulo, Jiao Xin 'an expressed his hope to further stimulate the exchange of students, faculty communication and scientific research cooperation in the fields of mathematics, physics, veterinary medicine and biology. Moreover, Jiao Xin 'an invited this University to join the "Jiangsu, Macao, Portuguese Speaking Countries University Alliance". After the talks, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding and academic exchange agreement. The delegation visited the laboratories of the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of São Paulo and the College of Veterinary Medicine, and met with Elcio Abdalla, chief scientist of the BINGO radio telescope project, academician of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and professor of the University of São Paulo.

At the Brazilian National Institute for Semi-Arid Studies, the delegation visited the experimental base, therefore understanding the use of biotechnology for water conservation, purification and recycling. After that, the delegation signed a memorandum of understanding with the director Monica Cavalcanti.

At the Federal University of Campina Grande, Jiao Xin 'an introduced the history of our university, disciplines and majors, as well as the development of overseas education in China. In addition, the heads of both sides signed an agreement to establish a student exchange base and held a licensing ceremony. During the visit, the delegation implemented on-site publicity on our international cooperation and exchange, as well as the enrollment and cultivation of international students. Furthermore, they also visited the laboratories of high voltage and energy power, metrology and signal processing, BINGO special research and biological materials.

During the session in Chile, Jiao Xin 'an pointed out that this visit marked the commencement of the cooperation and exchange between the two sides. And we hope to promote further communication in other fields such as talent training through faculty-student exchange and scientific research cooperation. While Carlos Torres Fuchslocher, President of the University of Talca, suggested that it is necessary to make best use of the merits of teaching and scientific research dominance of the two universities, and effectively utilize bilateral resources to establish a better communication and cooperation platform for students and faculties. After the talks, the two sides also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation.

At the Catholic University of Valparaiso, the delegation of Jiao Xin 'an carried out intensive negotiations with the heads and representative professors from the College of Science, Engineering, and Agriculture on scientific research cooperation, student joint training and short-term exchange projects. With that, both sides have come to an agreement, and signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation.

Representatives from Party Office, Science and Technology Office, International Office, College of Mathematical Science, College of Veterinary Medicine and other departments accompanied the visit.
