Brief Introduction

College of Physical Science and Technology was initiated in 1952 and founded in 2002 as the outgrowth of disciplinary rectification of Yangzhou University. The college now has three undergraduate programs: Physics, Electronic Information Science and Technology, and Microelectronics. The college offers comprehensive teaching and research programs in both basic and applied aspects of physics and electronics and also provides five research-oriented programs leading to the Master’s degree: Condensed Matter Physics, Theoretical Physics, Biophysical, Physics Curriculum and Teaching Theory and Signal and Information Processing.

The advantage of the college is based on the high standard of its faculty. About 80 faculty and staff members are working in the college, including around 39 professors and associate professors.

The college attaches great importance to its connection with industry and manufacturing, and closely combines industry, teaching and research together. It takes advantage of its research achievements to assist the development of the local economy. Ever since the foundation of the college there have been over 40 research projects, including 18 national projects from National Science Foundation, 973 High-tech Projects, and National Priority Projects for the National Ninth Five-year Plan, and 25 provincial- or ministerial-level research projects. The research projects have achieved great success. More than 600 research papers have been published, in which more than 200 are indexed by SCI, EI or ISTP. More than 10 monographs have been published. The annual research fund amounts to over one Million in RMB.

To facilitate teaching and researches, the college has worked hard to find financial resources to update its laboratories and teaching facilities. The college has 1 provincial key laboratory, and 5 teaching laboratory centers.  The laboratories occupy an area of 5800 square meters and offer various equipments valued more than 15 million. The college also provides a reading room with a collection of more than 19,000 volumes of books and journals.

Facing the opportunities and challenges coming with the new era of a knowledge-based economy, the college is carrying out improvement to make its management more efficient, and its teaching and researches more advanced.
