Brief Introduction

College of Bioscience and Biotechnology was founded in 1998 and is composed of three departments: Bioscience, Biotechnology and Bioengineering. The NationalCenter for Bioscience and Biotechnology Teaching and Demonstration was authorized by the Minister of Education in 2007, reflecting the fundamental significance of experimental teaching in that field.

The College offers comprehensive teaching and research programs in both basic and applied aspects of bioscience and biotechnology. The study in the college covers a wide range of life sciences from molecules, cells, tissues, organs, to organisms and populations in microbes, plants and animals. The College also offers research-oriented programs leading to Doctor’s degree in Plant Biology and the Master’s degree in Biology.

Research areas within the College include molecular biology and genetics, cell and developmental biology, plant physiology, genetic engineering, microbiology and environmental biology, etc. Research in the College is supported by state-of-the-art equipment, including facilities for cell culture, molecular and cell biology, and modern microscopy as well as animal care, plant growth facilities (green house), which allows us to conduct research on topics at the frontier of life sciences. The college has established close relations with the ChineseAcademy of Science (CAS) and universities of many Countries. In 2002, a joint research center for photosynthesis and functional genomics between YangzhouUniversity and Institute of Botany of CAS was established, which provides a solid research platform in study of plant science.

In the past 10 years, the college has established itself as an intellectual powerhouse and an innovator in research and teaching, contributing to college’s reputation in academic excellence and relevance.
